In a world of scripted personas and carefully curated content, one podcaster discovered the untapped power of authenticity. It all began with a heartfelt email from a listener seeking advice, unraveling a journey of self-discovery and connection.
ROY Formula for Podcast Growth
R is for Relevant. We talked about that last time and you can get all that info here.
O is for opinionated.
Before recording, I was sharing this idea with a friend and she indicated that opinionated had a negative connotation for her. It doesn’t with me, but if it hits you the wrong way feel free to replace that world with “sharing what I believe” instead.
That’s the context for the term opinionated in this episode. I hope you find it helpful. People listen to shows to hear your expertise and your personal thoughts about the topics you discuss.
Information on an entire galaxy of topics is readily available.
What’s NOT everywhere?
You, your thoughts and your perspective.
That’s what people want to hear.
It was an aha moment. True success comes from the willingness to be honest, open and appropriately (for you and your audience) unfiltered. This realization transformed how we podcast and today we are forging bonds with their audience that extend beyond the podcast.
We began to share this concept for others looking for sincere ways to make connections and create impact.

Fostering a Community through Open Dialogues and Respectful Conversations.
Podcasters have the unique privilege of creating a community that shares common interests, engages in insightful discussions, and cultivates a sense of belonging. By addressing sensitive topics with open-mindedness and respect, podcasters can pave the way for meaningful dialogue and promote a positive and inclusive community culture.
When you synthesize different viewpoints and respect others’ opinions you foster a sense of trust and encourage audience engagement, thereby making the podcast more impactful.
We’re helping our clients strike the right balance between respectful dialogue while expressing thier own opinions. Openness to feedback and willingness to encourage other perspectives enriches the conversations on your podcast.
The Value of Opinionated Content in Podcasting
Podcasting provides you, the creator, with an unique appeal to listeners. You can be seen as the expert while being approachable and personal when you allow your own opinions and insights to become part of your content.
Embracing your own style and flavor gives your audience a unique experience and makes it acceptable for them to acknowledge their own take on topics as well.
Being opinionated in podcasting is about more than just making assertions; it’s about bringing one’s individual perspective to the forefront, making the content more personal and engaging.
More importantly, it’s about standing your ground and being authentic to who you are. It’s not just about playing devil’s advocate or creating controversy. On the contrary, it’s about sharing your own experiences, perspectives, and ideas that add depth to the conversation.
By being opinionated, gives your listeners something more authentic and more ‘you’, which will inevitably attract an audience that resonates with your perspectives and ideas. It’s essential to steer from being contentious for the sake of clicks or downloads.
Provide something that’s genuinely helpful and authentic to the listeners.
